CBP, Idemia, Royal Caribbean Cruises Test Facial Recognition Tech - top government contractors - best government contracting eventIdemia, formerly known as MorphoTrust, and Royal Caribbean Cruises have collaborated with the Customs and Border Protection agency to test a facial recognition system to confirm passengers’ identities during their entry and re-entry to cruise ships.

The team used the company’s facial capture and recognition technology to validate identities of individuals who exit the Royal Caribbean ships during the Sea Re-entry trial at the Cape Liberty Cruise Port in New Jersey, Idemia said Nov. 14.

The trial was performed in a push to secure and streamline the processing of citizens at U.S. sea-based ports of entry.

“Royal Caribbean’s commitment to providing our guests a pleasurable experience includes making the final step of clearing customs fast, secure and frictionless,” said Thomas Hinderhofer director of Cape Liberty Port operations at Royal Caribbean Cruises.

“The trial exceeded our expectations in terms of being able to quickly process passengers re-entering the country while at the same time addressing key border management requirements.”
