SpaceX has deployed a Thales Alenia Space-built communications satellite into orbit for South Korean operator KTSAT using the Falcon 9 rocket.
Thales said Monday the KOREASAT-5A satellite is currently positioned at 113 degrees East and designed to provide internet access, multimedia, broadcasting and fixed communications services for KTSAT’s customers in the Middle East and multiple Asian countries.
KOREASAT-5A is derived from Thales Alenia Space’s updated Spacebus 4000B2 platform and equipped with 36 Ku-band transponders.
Thales Alenia Space will also support early operations phase and in-orbit tests of the satellite as part of a prime contract with KTSAT.
