AT&T to Provide Global Comms Services for Army Personnel; Kay Kapoor Comments

AT&T has secured a contract to help the U.S. Army integrate and update communications services for approximately 1 million personnel of the service branch in the U.S. and abroad.

The company said Monday will provide chat, voice, video, instant messaging, presence and screen sharing services intended to help commanders and their staff members collaborate, connect and exchange information.

“These services will help the heroes that defend our nation to connect, share and keep us safe,” said Kay Kapoor, president of AT&T’s global public sector business.

Army personnel will have access to the company’s cloud-based communications services through the use of desktops, laptops and other authorized mobile devices.

AT&T noted that the service branch’s modernization programs are in line with a Defense Department strategy to maintain the U.S. military’s technological advantage with commercial cloud technology.
