A Boeing subsidiary has secured a $13.8 million contract to integrate navigation, communications and network connectivity updates to the U.S. Navy‘s future P-8AÂ multimission maritime aircraft, Defense Systems reported Thursday.
The report said Jeppesen Sanderson-built MilPlanner, FliteDeck Pro and on-board performance software tools will be incorporated into the P-8A Poseidon.
Jeppesen aims to complete aircraft software upgrades by 2022.
The Navy contracted Boeing to manufacture P-8As that will replace the service branch’s P-3C Orion maritime patrol aircraft and aims to achive full operational capacity for the new platform by 2023.
P-8A will employ the MilPlanner6 software designed to support flight planning and optimization functions as well as Smart Notes technology designed to evaluate flight data based on chronology and geospatial locations.
