Lockheed Martin‘s space systems business has secured a $43.9 million contract modification from the U.S. Navy to produce Trident II D5 submarine-launched fleet ballistic missiles and carry out support for deployed D5 systems.
The Defense Department said Friday work will occur in California, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Washington, Utah and Virginia through Sept. 30, 2017.
The Navy’s Strategic Systems Programs will obligate the full modification amount at the time of award from the service branch’s operations and maintenance funds.
Lockheed manufactures and provides technical and logistical support for Trident missiles and equipment as the program’s prime contractor.
The missile is designed for use on the Navy’s Ohio-class and the U.K.’s Vanguard-class submarines.
