Mary Saunders, associate director for management resources at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, has been named vice president of government relations and public policy at the American National Standards Institute effective March 1, 2017.
She currently oversees all NIST-wide institutional support and administrative offices and their functions such as workforce management, information technology, accounting and finance, budget formulation and strategic planning, ANSI said Tuesday.
Before that, Saunders was a director of NIST’s Standards Coordination Office and deputy assistance secretary for manufacturing and services at the International Trade Administration, where she worked to coordinate Commerce Department strategies, policies and programs for the U.S. market.
The federal government veteran also previously served as a vice chair on ANSI’s board of directors.
“Mary’s unique background, including extensive federal government executive-level experience, 20+ years of experience in standards policy development and implementation, and exceptional leadership skills will make her a strong asset as a member of ANSI’s senior staff,” said S. Joe Bhatia, ANSI’s president and CEO.
