Rafael Advanced Defense Systems has awarded Elbit Systems two contracts worth nearly $35 million combined to produce airborne laser designators for two Asia-Pacific countries.
Elbit said Tuesday it will perform contract work for three years and provide miniaturized laser systems that will work to provide aircrews a precise target designation and closure of the sensor to shooter cycle.
Elad Aharonson, general manager of Elbit Systems’ ISTAR division, said the company aims to invest in local industries and further its commitment to Asia Pacific through the contract.
Elbit Systems’ laser designators have been in operation for 30 years and the company has made huge technological investments and built large scale production infrastructure for the system.
The designators are built with focus on optimal size, weight and power to fulfill requirements for ground and airborne systems, Elbit says.
