Public benefit corporation data.world and the Defense Department have partnered to launch an open data website that works to provide searchable, machine-readable and downloadable military datasets.
Data.World said Thursday that DoD’s Defense Digital Service worked with data owners across the U.S. military to create the new Data.mil platform.
The new website is designed to facilitate collaboration, analysis and discussion among journalists, subject matter experts, data scientists and citizens, data.world added.
Data.mil was launched with the Theater History of Operations database that includes a dataset of historic aerial bombings from World War I through Vietnam.
The website will release data on the Vietnam and Korean wars on Dec. 19, which will also mark the first public release of THOR data on aerial bombings in Korea.
