Silicon Graphics International has received a potential $26.5 million contract from the Defense Department to provide supercomputer systems in support of DoD’s High Performance Computing Modernization Program.
SGI said Monday it will implement the company’s SGI ICE XA supercomputers at two Army Research Laboratory Defense Supercomputing Resource Centers as part of HPCMP’s TI-16 technology insertion.
The HPC modernization effort aims to update high-performance computing platforms that aid the department’s research, development, test and evaluation activities.
The company said its systems will work to help DoD users manage data searches generated from field tests across various military operations, the company noted.
SGI’s systems are designed to scale algorithms and boost real-time experimental data processing and live-virtual simulation methods.
The contract contains four option years for annual maintenance services and work will occur in Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland through April 24, 2021.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise wrapped up its acquisition of SGI Tuesday in efforts to grow HPE’s data analytics technology portfolio and HPC market footprint.
