A public-private joint venture of SES and Luxembourg has secured a contract to provide commercial satellite communications services for NATO‘s ground surveillance system.
GovSat will deliver commercial Ku-band satellite capacity and capacity management services to support the command and control and sensor data communications needs of NATO’s Global Hawk unmanned aerial vehicles across the AGS operational area, SES said Tuesday.
NATO selected Northrop Grumman in 2012Â to serve as prime contractor on a $1.7 billion deal that covers ground surveillance system components and involves contributions from 13 member nations as well as long-term support from 28 alliance members.
AGS system is comprised of air, ground and support elements that work to provide terrestrial and maritime surveillance in near real-time to support border control, maritime safety, countererrorism, crisis management and humanitarian assistance missions.
GovSat offers satellite communication services for government customers to address demand from defense and civilian security applications.
