Lockheed Martin and Pennsylvania State University have entered into a new agreement to collaborate on various studies, enhance recruitment and help finance some of the university’s programs.
The partnership seeks to develop a framework to drive future research projects focused on computer science, cybersecurity, supply chain and aerospace engineering, Penn State said Thursday.
Under the agreement, Penn State students will have access to talent recruitment opportunities and Lockheed Martin employees will have the chance to participate in the online master’s programs for electrical engineering and engineering leadership and management.
“As our technological demands increase, so do our needs for world-class talent,” said Dan Heller, vice president of engineering and technology at Lockheed.
“This agreement is an ideal opportunity for Penn State students to work alongside Lockheed Martin engineers and scientists on the challenges we face today and those we anticipate will emerge in the future,” added Heller.
The deal follows Penn State’s implementation of the Open Innovation Model that seeks to help academic institutions identify methods to address various industry challenges without the need to renegotiate contracts.
Lockheed introduced a design engineering program this past spring to help Penn State students solve technical problems through additive manufacturing.
