IBM‘s security business has opened a physical cyber range in Cambridge, Massachusetts, for the commercial sector and expanded the unit’s incident response network as part of a $200 million investment IBM announced in 2016.
The company said Nov. 16 it opened a new global security headquarters in Cambridge, where the IBM X-Force Command cyber range is located to train organizations on threat response through simulated cyber attacks.
The facility provides real-world cyber attack scenarios with the use of live malware, ransomware and other hacker tools to help organizations defend against cyber attacks.
IBM also announced the expansion of its X-Force Command Centers worldwide, a network of security operations centers that monitor more than a trillion security incidents every month through cognitive technologies such as Watson for client services and for cybersecurity.
The company upgraded X-Force Command Center Atlanta to handle more than 35 billion security events every day with the use of X-Force Threat Intelligence, as well as opened similar command centers in Bangalore and Poland.
IBM also unveiled a new incident response and intelligence consulting team, the IBM X-Force Incident Response and Intelligence Services, led by Wendi Whitmore to help clients locate and identify the methods of cyber attacks.
“Being prepared to respond is the first line of defense in making sure a cybersecurity incident doesn’t become a crisis,†said Marc van Zadelhoff, general manager of IBM security business.
The IBM X-Force IRIS team will work to test customers’ environments, run attack scenarios and identify systems that need security updates.
