Patrick Doyle, Unisys global justice and law enforcement subject matter expert, has said  governments should integrate public safety functions into the interconnected systems of “smart city” programs.
Doyle wrote in a GCN opinion piece published Tuesday that public safety agencies should be included in the information workflows of smart cities to boost situational awareness.
Citizens that provide information through smart city initiatives can also share images, data, eyewitness accounts and sensory readings to authorities to aid police missions, Doyle added.
Doyle noted smart city programs are ideal contract vehicles for safer city initiatives.
