The University of Maryland University College will continue to sponsor the Air Force Association’s national youth cyber education program for a fourth consecutive year.
UMUC said Thursday it will support the CyberPatriot program in an effort to promote science, technology, engineering, mathematics and cybersecurity education to students.
The 2015-2016 CyberPatriot National Defense Competition aims to develop the skills of youth participants via support of program sponsors such as Northrop Grumman, AT&T, Cisco, Microsoft and the Department of Homeland Security,
This year’s CyberPatriot will include 3,379 student teams from all over the country.
“We look forward to working with UMUC to continue promoting cybersecurity education to a diverse population of youth around the world,” said Bernie Skoch, CyberPatriot national commissioner.
“The university is committed to supporting it not only through the sponsorship but in a number of other ways, including the participation of our faculty as judges in the competitions,” said Greg von Lehmen, assistant to UMUC’s president for cybersecurity.
CyberPatriot also plans to launch the CyberTitan: A Canadian National Cyber Defence Challenge for High Schools through a collaboration with the Information and Communications Technology Council.
