Boeing has turned over the first P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft to the Royal Australian Air Force during a ceremony held at the company’s delivery center in Tukwila, Washington.
Shelley Lavender, Boeing military aircraft president, handed the ceremonial keys for P-8A to Australian Chief of Air Force Leo Davies during the event, the company said Friday.
Boeing based the P-8A on the 737 airliner series and the company assembles the wings, tail and military systems of the aircraft in Washington.
The company is contracted to build a total of eight Poseidons for RAAF.
The aircraft is scheduled to arrive at its home base in Australia by November.
