The State Department has approved Egypt’s request to purchase Sentinel AN/MPQ-64F1 radars, High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles Ml 152 and related support from the U.S. government under a potential $70 million foreign military sales agreement.
ThalesRaytheonSystems, a joint venture of Thales Group and Raytheon, will serve as principal contractor for the sale that covers eight Sentinel radars, 16 HMMWV Ml 152 with shelter carrier kits and VRC-92E single channel ground and airborne radio systems, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Monday.
Egypt will use the radars, Humvees and related services to build up its air defense system against air attack threats and support interoperability with allied forces.
The FMS transaction also includes spares, software, training support, technical manuals, support equipment as well as deployment of 10 government and contractor personnel to Egypt to provide training and equipment checkout services for up to eight weeks.
DCSA said it notified Congress of the potential sale Friday.
