Raytheon has secured a potential $36.7 million contract option from the U.S. Navy for design agent and engineering services for the military branch’s ship self-defense weapon modernization initiative.
The Defense Department said Monday Raytheon’s missile systems business will support the Navy’s efforts to update the Rolling Airframe Missile MK-31 guided missile weapon system.
The company will provide design, systems, software maintenance, reliability, maintainability, quality assurance and logistics engineering services in an effort to help maintain the current weapon system’s capacity, noted DoD.
Work will occur in Arizona and Kentucky through September 2017 and about $2.3 million of the contract funds will come from the German government.
The Rolling Airframe Missile is a joint effort of the U.S. and Germany to protect ships against air and surface threats.
