Huntington Ingalls Industries‘ Newport News Shipbuilding division has landed a $52.4 million cost-plus-fixed-fee contract from the U.S. Navy to support modernization work for the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier’s fiscal 2016 planned incremental availability.
The Defense Department said Friday Newport News will help the Navy modernize, replace or repair nuclear propulsion systems and specialized systems on the USS Truman.
Work covers planning, material procurement, prefabrication, manpower, engineering, Â management, design integration and technical data support services.
DoD noted the Naval Sea Systems Command competitively procured the services and will obligate $49.2 million in fiscal 2016 operation and maintenance and “other” Navy procurement funds for work to be performed in Portsmouth, Virginia through September 2017.
The Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier is built to perform maritime security operations, expeditionary power projection, forward naval presence, crisis response, sea control, deterrence, counter-terrorism, information operations and security cooperation missions.
