Saab has come to an agreement with Lockheed Martin‘s subsidiary in Canada to install additional optronic sensors in the former’s Ceros 200 fire control directors used by the country’s navy on the branch’s Halifax-class frigates and land-based test sites.
The optronic sensors will work to deliver additional support to the radar functions of the Ceros 200, Saab said Monday.
Ceros 200 is a naval radar and optronic fire control director that can be integrated with missile and gun systems to defend against incoming threats, such as advanced sea skimming missiles and asymmetric surface threats.
Saab said it will perform contract work between 2016 and 2017 at its site in Canada and Sweden.
The company is a provider of global security and defense products and services to military and civil security organizations.
Lockheed’s business unit in Canada is the prime contractor on the Canadian navy’s efforts to modernize its fleet of Halifax-class frigates.
