Leonardo-Finmeccanica debuted a military trainer variant of the AgustaWestland-built AW119 Koala helicopter Monday at the Navy League’s Sea-Air Space Exhibition in Washington.
AgustaWestland, a subsidiary of the Italian conglomerate, aims to offer the TH-119Â single-engine helicopter training platform to the U.S. Navy and other potential military customers, Finmeccanica said Monday.
The TH-119 is designed to have a 180-degree adjustable trainer observation seat, a full night vision device, a reinforced skid design, cargo hook and hoist systems and a five-fuel cell intended to keep the helicopter in flight for more than five hours.
The military training helicopter will be manufactured at AgustaWestland’s facility in Philadelphia.
Finmeccanica is set to change its name to “Leonardo” by Jan. 1 after the company’s shareholders approved the rebranding effort.
