mobile-device-managementThe General Services Administration has asked industry on behalf of the mobile services category team to provide information on how vendors sell enterprise mobile devices and services to federal agencies.

GSA said in a FedBizOpps notice posted May 2 the request for information is part of MSCT’s compliance with the Office of Management and Budget’s draft category management policy and aims to determine whether new or existing contract vehicles should be used in the procurement of such services.

MSCT is comprised of members from GSA as well as the departments of Defense, Homeland Security, Treasury and State.

GSA said the RFI consists of a survey questionnaire that seeks to identify the methods that companies use when transacting with agencies as well as a list of procurement and technical questions.

Billy Mitchell also reported for Fedscoop that GSA held an industry day Monday to discuss the RFI.

Jon Johnson, an MCST member and enterprise mobility team manager at GSA, told event attendees that the RFI seeks industry input on enterprise device management, commodity mobile devices, back-office support and wireless services, according to Fedscoop.

“The federal government does not do industry favors when it asks industry to respond to individual agencies’ needs, which are actually relatively common across the board, but do so in an independent way over and over and over again,” Johnson said.

“That’s something we’re going to look to try to address.”

Responses to the RFI are due May 31, according to the notice.
