Elbit Systems‘ U.S. subsidiary has selected Leonardo-Finmeccanica to provide a radar system to support training at the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School in Patuxent River, Maryland.
The school will use the Vixen 500EÂ active electronically scanned array radar for student training operations aboard a C-26 aircraft, Leonardo-Finmeccanica said Friday.
The radar is set for delivery in mid-2016 and will enter service in the fall.
USNTPS provides training on the theory, processes and techniques of aircraft and systems evaluation to pilots, flight officers and engineers.
Leonardo-Finmeccanica said the school will work to offer radar-focused live-training exercises utilizing Vixen 500E’s modes for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and air intercept.
Vixen 500E uses miniature radar modules to direct its beam via electronic means.
The company added that it previously provided the Vixen 500 radar to the Department of Homeland Security.
