Denmark’s government has issued a recommendation for the military to purchase $3 billion in Lockheed Martin-built F-35 fighter jets to replace the country’s legacy F-16 jets that are slated for retirement, Defense News reported Wednesday.
Lara Seligman and Gerard O’Dwyer write that Denmark’s legislature will debate the blueprint for close to a month before the country arrives at a final decision.
Denmark would become the 11th country to join the global F-35 program that includes the U.S., U.K., Australia, Turkey, Italy, Norway, the Netherlands, Israel, South Korea and Japan.
Denmark also considered the Saab Gripen NG, Eurofighter Typhoon and Boeing Super Hornet planes in this procurement process, according to Defense News.
