Harris Corp. has been awarded $41 million in orders for new U.S. Army satellite communications terminals that will serve as the backbone for military communications and missile defense systems worldwide.
The company will produce and install the fixed-site terminals and hardened transportable terminals under the Army’s Modernization of Enterprise Terminals program, Harris said Thursday.
“MET’s state-of-the-art multiband terminals will provide critical communications and situational awareness capabilities for U.S. decision-makers and military personnel deployed worldwide,” said Ed Zoiss, president of Harris’ electronic systems business.
Harris designed the terminals to help military users access the new Wideband Global SATCOM network and old satellite constellations via dual X- and Ka-band.
The latest orders, which the company booked during its fiscal 2016 third quarter, fall under a potential 10-year, $800 contract that the Army awarded in 2009.
