NASA has chosen 341 Small Business Innovation Research and 58 Small Business Technology Transfer proposals on space-related research and development for Phase I negotiations on contracts potentially worth $49.7 million.
The selected proposals will receive six-month contracts worth up to $125,000 and support the development of technologies in fields including aeronautics, science, human exploration and space technology, NASA said Thursday.
“These proposals represent the entrepreneurial spirit of small businesses that fuel our economy and create jobs on Main Street,” said Steve Jurczyk, associate administrator for NASA’s space technology mission directorate.
Selected proposals include concepts and technologies to support the Next Generation Air Transportation System, life support and habitation technologies for a crewed spacecraft, robotic exploration of planets and other bodies in the solar system and systems that work to produce and store energy in space.
The space agency said it received 1,278 proposals from 259 U.S. small businesses and 42 research organizations and selected 399 for potential Phase 1 contracts according to technical merit and feasibility as well as experience, qualifications and the available facilities of the submitting party.
