Lockheed Martin and machine-to-machine communications firm ORBCOMM have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore business opportunities in the Internet of Things market.
The Bethesda, Maryland-based company said Thursday it aims to utilize ORBCOMM’s technology portfolio and develop M2M satellite and cellular connectivity or hybrid offerings for government clients through the partnership.
“The vision of the Internet of Things promises to change how society benefits from machines embedded with greater intelligence, improving the decisions organizations make and ultimately the quality of service delivered to their end users,†said Dave Markham, vice president of strategy and advanced programs at Lockheed’s space systems business.
The partnership seeks to offer IoT-based satellite connectivity technology and services intended help organizations manage assets, track supply chains and facilitate natural disaster response missions.
