Lockheed Martin‘s test team has begun integration of the Aegis combat system on the Australian navy’s Hobart-class air warfare destroyer.
The integrated test team also tested that the Aegis combat system was installed and functional aboard the destroyers, the company said Wednesday.
Rob Milligan, surface ships program lead at Lockheed’s Australian arm, said engineers and technicians from the company’s U.S. and Australian bases will work to strengthen the AWD test team and complete the Aegis combat systems integration.
Lockheed noted that the Hobart-class destroyers will be the country’s first warships to wield the Aegis weapon system, which includes the Aegis Baseline 8 configuration and SPY-1D(V) radar.
The company serves as Aegis systems integrator and engineering agent for U.S. and Australian navy destroyers and other international customers.
