General Dynamics‘ European land systems unit has selected GKN Aerospace to supply the British military with fuel tanks for the Ajax ground vehicle units under a $29.6 million contract throughout 2023.
The fuel tanks will be manufactured and produced with self-seal technology and explosion suppression foam in an effort to improve vehicle durability, GKN Aerospace said Tuesday.
General Dynamics landed a $605 million contract from the British Army in July 2015Â to extend in-service support of the Ajax special vehicle platform, formerly known as the Scout SV, that was previously reported to last until 2024.
British Defense Minister Philip Dunne said the explosion suppression tech to be integrated in the fuel system would aim to protect the troops and keep them safe.
“Work on the Ajax program is sustaining hundreds of jobs across the UK, including at Portsmouth,” he added.
