Smiths Detection has signed a five-year, $65 million deal with the Department of Homeland Security‘s Federal Protective Service to provide x-ray inspection systems in government buildings across the U.S.
FPS will use the x-ray systems to detect potential threats at more than 9,000 government facilities under its responsibility, the company said Wednesday.
SDI aims to complete deliveries and installations of the x-ray systems by 2021 and intends to carry out maintenance work until 2026.
The company offers screening equipment for mail, baggage, freight and explosives that are used by airport security, customs inspections and government agencies such as the Transportation Security Administration and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
