Rick Ambrose, executive vice president of Lockheed Martin‘s space systems segment, has said the company has concluded a thermal vacuum test on the first satellite for the U.S. Air Force’s GPS III program, Space News reported Wednesday.
Mike Gruss writes Ambrose made the announcement through a post on his Twitter account.
Lockheed is contracted to develop eight GPS III satellites with options to build four additional satellites, Gruss reports.
The first GPS IIIÂ satellite is scheduled for launch by 2017, according to the report.
