Elbit Systems Ltd. has received a two-year, $26.5 million contract to produce multi-spectral infrared countermeasures systems for installation in an Asia Pacific client’s aircraft.
The infrared countermeasures system works to protect airliners from man portable air defense systems using a fiber laser-directed infrared countermeasure technology, Elbit said Wednesday.
Elad Aharonson, general manager of Elbit Systems ISTAR division, said the product provides “self-protection against IR-seeking weapons that pose a growing threat for aviation, as the proliferation and capabilities of MANPADs continue to advance.â€
The system is designed based on Elbit’s directed IR countermeasure systems for fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters.
