research-and-development-RDThe National Institute of Standards and Technology has issued a new report on federal laboratories’ technology transfer efforts in fiscal year 2013 as part of the Obama administration’s Lab-to-Market Cross-Agency Priority Goal.

NIST said Tuesday 5,492 active income bearing licenses resulted in approximately $185 million income in fiscal 2013.

Other findings of the Federal Laboratory Technology Transfer, Fiscal Year 2013, Summary Report to the President and Congress include:

  • 8,703 cooperative agreements on research and development
  • 5,307 invention disclosures
  • 1,909 issued patents
  • 2,507 new patent submissions
  • 44,802 published articles co-authored/authored by federal researchers

Some products that emerged from federal technology transfer efforts in fiscal 2013 include the Public Safety Broad Band Demonstration Network and a magnet-based medical device designed to treat neuropsychiatric diseases through brain stimulation.
