Orbital ATK has delivered the fuel and oxidizer tanks for NASA‘s James Webb Space Telescope to prime contractor Northrop Grumman after a series of qualification tests on the tanks’ survivability.
The tanks are built to supply propulsion for the Webb telescope and be integrated into the observatory, Orbital ATK said Tuesday.
The company designed and manufactured the tanks’Â Propellant Management Device and other components at its facility in California with the help of PMD Technology.
PMD Technology also helped analyze and “slosh test” the PMD device before its installation into the fuel and oxidizer tanks.
The Webb telescope serves as the successor to NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope.
