The New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness and the New Jersey State Police used the JerseyNet communications system made by Oceus Networks to manage the visit of Pope Francis to the U.S.
Oceus said Tuesday the agencies utilized JerseyNet to support mobile communications and the live stream of security video during the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia.
“[JerseyNet]Â connected multiple agencies in Band 14 spectrum in ways that would have not been possible over commercial networks due to the size of the local crowds,” said Randy Fuerst, president and CEO of Oceus Networks.
JerseyNet is a private network that works to transmit voice, video and data and connect first responders in support of public safety missions.
Oceus noted that JerseyNet enabled direct communications between several law enforcement, transportation and associated local and state agencies in New Jersey and Pennsylvania as well as their federal partners to coordinate the Papal visit.
The company collaborated with PMC Associates and Fujitsu Network Communications to construct and deploy the network.
