Lockheed Martin has launched a new amphibious combat vehicle as a replacement for the U.S. Marine Corps’ current amphibious assault vehicles.
The company said Tuesday ACV 1.1 is an eight-wheel-drive armored platform designed to transport up to 13 passengers and has a modular design intended for the integration of communications equipment, sensors and weapon systems.
“We have been committed to the Marine Corps for more than eight years in the growth and evolution of the ACV and its predecessor programs,†said Scott Greene, vice president of ground vehicles at Lockheed Martin’s missiles and fire control.
Lockheed has formed a team of suppliers that will work to produce and deliver new ACVs based on the service branch’s requirements in protection, payload capacity, land and water operations, Greene added.
The company unveiled the new ACV at the Modern Day Marine trade exhibition in Virginia Tuesday.
