Inmarsat has introduced a new strategy that seeks to leverage its mobile satellite network in an effort to provide global connectivity to users of machine-to-machine systems and Internet of Things-based devices.
The company launched the Internet of Everywhere strategy at the three-day CTIA Super Mobility 2015 show that kicked off Wednesday at the Sands Expo in Las Vegas, Inmarsat said Wednesday.
David Wigglesworth, vice president of Internet of Everywhere at Inmarsat, said Inmarsat will collaborate with current and potential value-added resellers in order to offer communications services meant to help M2M and IoT consumers monitor and control their mobile and fixed assets via a “single network and a single SIM.”
Inmarsat said it will offer two M2M communication services – IsatData Pro and BGAN M2M – through its L-band satellite network.
IDP is a low-data rate, short messaging service designed for remote management of mobile and fixed systems, while BGAN M2M is a two-way Internet protocol-based service that works to provide data connectivity to customers that deal with megabytes or gigabytes of data.
