market researchA new International Data Corp. report says the global market for integrated infrastructure systems and integrated platforms reached $2.4 billion in revenues in the second quarter of this year.

IDC said Thursday the market posted nearly 45 percent increase in storage capacity shipments during the quarter compared with the same quarter of the previous year.

According to IDC, integrated infrastructure tools are intended for distributed, general-purpose workloads, while integrated platforms are designed for workload-specific operations and are marketed with pre-integrated set of customized software and systems engineering tools.

Oracle, IBM, Hewlett-Packard and other vendors in the integrated platforms market generated $895 million during the second quarter, with Oracle capturing 54 percent of the segment’s total market.

Meanwhile, VCE, Cisco, NetApp, HP, EMC and other suppliers in the integrated infrastructure market posted at least $1.5 billion in sales, representing 15.5 percent year-over-year growth during the quarter.

“Organizations are leaning away from workload-specific platforms and toward general-purpose, multi-workload hardware solutions,” said Kevin M. Permenter, a senior research analyst at IDC’s enterprise systems team.

“We expect to see this trend continue through 2015.”
