Microsoft has received additional federal certifications for its Azure Government cloud computing platform after evaluations of the product’s data security features for U.S. public sector organizations.
Tom Keane, partner director for Microsoft Azure program management, wrote in a blog post published Tuesday the platform obtained a moderate provisional authority-to-operate status under the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program.
He added the Defense Information Security Agency issued a Level 2 provisional approval to the cloud offering to help defense agencies manage the security of their non-sensitive information and applications.
Additionally, Microsoft plans to include a Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act business associate agreement addendum in Azure Government enterprise contracts.
The company also seeks to help agency customers comply with tax information security guidelines in the Internal Revenue Service Publication 1075 through the platform.
