The U.S. Marine Corps Systems Command has placed a $9.8 million order for 75 small unmanned ground vehicles from iRobot.
The lightweight man-portable SUGV includes a manipulator device intended to facilitate dismounted mobile operations and is designed to access locations that are not safe for people to enter, iRobot said Monday.
USMC is scheduled to receive the SUGVs by the second quarter of 2016.
“As threats persist globally, iRobot is proud to continue partnering with our defense forces to provide this life-saving technology,” said Tom Frost, senior vice president and general manager of iRobot’s defense and security unit.
The company said it has built and delivered more than 5,000 robotic platforms for defense and security organizations globally.
