TeleCommunication Systems has added 14 U.S. patents and nine foreign patents for public safety, location-based services, GIS/mapping, messaging and wireless data technology during the second quarter of its current fiscal year year.
The company said Thursday it purchased two of the new U.S. patents while the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued the other 12 U.S. patents.
“This patent portfolio protects our products, provides opportunities for royalties, and assists us in defending claims against our products directly and under indemnification provisions of contracts with major customers,” said Maurice Tose, TCS CEO.
TCS said the new patents include communications technologies or techniques that work to prevent prank calls on emergency call centers, reduce wireless network traffic for location and presence services and support faster retrieval of mapping image tiles.
