BlackBerry Ltd. has received a new Defense Department approval to deploy the company’s mobile device public key infrastructure credentials throughout the department.
DoD personnel will use the BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 smartphones to access and share data without the use of common access card tools for security, BlackBerry said Thursday.
“The DoD approval demonstrates how highly secure mobile solutions designed to protect valuable national assets can also enhance efficiency among users, simplify management for administrators and reduce costs,” said David Kleidermacher, chief security officer at BlackBerry.
DoD’s approval covers BlackBerry smartphones that run version 7 of the BlackBerry operating system and BlackBerry 10 OS’ version 10.2 or higher.
