Raytheon has chosen 25 elementary school teachers in Maryland’s Calvert County Public Schools district to receive a $37,000 grant in an effort to promote engineering concepts and activities to students.
The award is part of Raytheon’s $2 million scholarship program with Boston’s Museum of Science that aims to advance science, technology, engineering and math education in schools through the Engineering is Elementary curriculum, the company said Wednesday.
Under the award, the teachers will attend a workshop and will receive teaching materials to help them introduce EiE course to elementary school students.
“With the release of the Next Generation Science Standards in 2013, there’s a new expectation that engineering will be integrated with existing elementary science curricula – and schools and districts need an effective way to do that,” said Dr. Christine Cunningham, EiE founder and director and a vice president at the museum.
“We’re really pleased to be able to offer support through the Raytheon scholarship program,†she added.
