Lockheed Martin has selected Aerojet Rocketdyne to provide the XR-5 Hall Effect and MR-510 Arcjet electric propulsion subsystems and monopropellant rocket engines for Lockheed’s contract with Arabsat.
Aerojet Rocketdyne said Tuesday Lockheed will fit the subsystems and rocket engines onto two modernized A2100 satellites as part of efforts to boost mission flexibility.
Warren Yasuhara, vice president of space systems at Aerojet Rocketdyne, added that the satellite propulsion components also work to drive fuel efficiency.
Lockheed and Aerojet Rocketdyne have a long-standing partnership on satellite and rocket development that started with the Satcom-1 program in the 1970s.
