Manuel Torres: Motorola Solutions to Help Norway Expand Public Safety Network Coverage

Motorola Solutions has been selected to deploy communications tools in Norway in an effort to expand coverage of the nation’s trunked radio system public safety network.

The Norwegian Directorate for Emergency Communication inked an agreement to obtain 1,000 licenses for Motorola Solutions’ Wave work group communications product, Motorola said Monday.

Users in Norway will be able to communicate and collaborate through voice and data via the Nodnett network using Motorola’s Wave technology, according to the company.

Manuel Torres, senior vice president and general manager for Europe, Africa and Latin America at Motorola Solutions, said Wave is designed to “help extend the reach of the Nodnett network beyond the current radio system, enabling connectivity to both broadband networks and other radio systems.”

“This will increase the number of options for those users such as support operations personnel and managers who require interoperability but do not use a radio as their primary communications device,” Torres added.

DNK has begun the tests for Wave, with a particular focus on “secure transmission of mission-critical voice and data,” said Tor Helge Lyngstol, director general of DNK.

Motorola is scheduled to complete Nodnett deployment across Norway by the end of 2015.
