IBMlogo3 EbizIBM has introduced a line of Power System servers and a range of storage systems designed to help clients facilitate processing of large-scale data in hybrid cloud settings.

IBM Power System E850 can manage 4-terabyte databases, while IBM PurePower System can run with OpenStack open-source cloud computing software and has virtualization hypervisor with no record of vulnerabilities, the company announced Monday at Edge Conference held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Meanwhile, IBM has added Spectrum Control Storage Insights and XIV Gen 3 to its portfolio of storage systems.

Spectrum Control Storage Insights is a software-as-a-service platform that can be deployed within half an hour and offers enhancements to data placement, analytics application, and storage use and visibility.

The IBM XIV Gen 3 cloud-based storage system uses real-time compression capability that can handle up to 80 percent more data, the company reported.

Beginning in June, IBM will offer a free trial of Rocket Software’s Mainframe Data Access Service to adopters of Bluemix cloud platform to enable them to access data on IBM z Systems mainframe to create applications for mobile and hybrid cloud environments.

“Hybrid cloud computing requires new levels of openness, dynamic data management, integration, automation and scalable performance in server, storage and software technologies,” said Don Boulia, vice president of cloud services at IBM Systems.

“IBM brings all of these technologies together from on-premises data centers and inside public and private clouds to more efficiently manage traditional computing with new mobile, big data and social computing workloads.”
