Harris Corp. has completed testing and verification of the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite-R Series ground segment ahead of the satellite’s delivery to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
The company said Monday the tests checked the GOES-R ground system’s capability to generate weather data for NOAA and interface with the Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System of the National Weather Service.
“With the ground system installed and tested well in advance of launch, NOAA has time to prepare for this transformational change in weather intelligence,” said Romy Olaisen, vice president of global weather solution programs at Harris’ government communications systems unit.
“Our role now transitions to operational support and system enhancements, through launch and beyond.”
The GOES-R satellite will launch in March 2016, Harris said.
The company is the prime contractor and systems integrator for the satellite’s ground segment.
