Exelis has received the IHS Jane’s air traffic control award for 2015 in the enabling technology category for the company’s work on U.K.’s Heathrow cross-border arrival management program.
IHS Jane presented the award to Exelis at the Civil Air Navigation Services Organization air traffic management dinner in Madrid, Spain, Exelis said Wednesday.
Exelis’ winning program in the enabling technology category work to reduce the amount circling time in holding stacks around London’s Heathrow airport in collaboration with NATS.
The winning Heathrow team worked to manage cross-border arrivals via the exchange of Heathrow arrival data with ATC operations at adjacent centers in order to reduce the time aircraft spend circling around London at low levels.
Exelis’ entry was among the 42 shortlisted nominations in six categories.
