Cobham, International Communications Group, Iridium Communications, L-3 Communications and Rockwell Collins have partnered to develop and distribute products that are built to work with Iridium’s new broadband service.
The industry partners will design and manufacture broadband terminals to be compatible with Iridium Certus, Iridium said Thursday.
Iridium expects the products from its partners to be available in late 2016 after the release of Iridium’s prototype transceivers in the second quarter of 2015.
Iridium will carry out technical support, testing services and terminal reference design work to assist its partners’ in the development phase.
Iridium Certus is intended to be a mobile satellite broadband service that operates as a standalone tool or complementary to VSAT terminals.
The terminals will also be available to maritime and aviation customers once certification for the product is completed.
