Rebecca Cowen-Hirsch, Inmarsat’s senior vice president of U.S. government sector, has received an Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association award for her advocacy to help further women empowerment in the work space.
The AFCEA Northern Virginia chapter selected the executive for the award to honor her leadership of the Women in NOVA program over the past three years, Inmarsat said Friday.
Among Cowen-Hirsch’s initiatives has been to convene senior female business and government leaders such as then Defense Chief Information Officer Teri Takai, Defense Information Systems Agency Director Cindy Moran and Army Deputy Assistant for Research and Technology Nancy Harned in discussion forums that concern women’s career development.
She has also pushed for a resolution to channel all WIN program proceeds toscience, technology, engineering and mathematics scholarships.
Inmarsat says Cowen-Hirsch also works on NOVA’s mentorship program for girls from elementary to high school levels and mentors female students and professionals herself in support of STEM education.
AFCEA presented the recognition to Cowen-Hirsch at the AFCEA WEST event in San Diego, California.
