Northrop Grumman is looking to convert an unused space at the Palmdale, California-based F-35 facility into a production area for a new aircraft, Defense News reported Thursday.
Aaron Mehta writes the government-owned, contractor-operated Air Force Plant 42 site has a one-million-square-foot vacant area.
Tom Vice, Northrop’s president of aerospace systems, told reporters “this site has very unique capabilities and capacities,” according to the report.
Defense News reports Northrop seeks to build B-2 long-range stealth bombers for the U.S. Air Force.
The company is also in partnership with BAE Systems, L-3 and Rolls-Royce to produce the Hawk jet training system for the Air Force’s T-X program, Mehta reports.
